My name is Curtis. I lost my job recently and have not been able to find a comparable job or a low cost month-to-month apartment to rent in the small, beautiful town of Durango, Colorado. I am putting all my belongings in storage and “hitting the road” on my motorcycle, a bright red 1997 Honda ST1100. I will be recording my travels in this blog. I hope you will enjoy it.

    Hi Curtis:

I did something similar in the dot-com bust of 2003. Left the job of 7 years at which I had gotten too emotionally attached (it was my life, to the exclusion of almost everything else), got on the bike, and rode for two weeks to clear my head. It was my “Halftime Head-Clearing Harley Adventure.” (Halftime since I was ~40 and at life’s mid-point.)

Here’s a brief recap of my trip (not nearly as detailed as yours… but in my defense, blogs weren’t nearly as ubiquitous): http://markyolton.com/HHHA_summary.htm … and here is a small sampling of the pics: http://markyolton.com/HHHA_pics.htm

I wish you all the best. It was one of my life’s great memories, even six years hence.

I learned alot on my adventure, as I know you will yours. One of the most important was that my career was not the most important thing, and it needed to be put into its place. Another – probably the most important and enduring – was spiritual… if you don’t see God out there on the road as you travel this amazing country, you’re not paying attention.

I’ll be watching you via Twitter with great interest and a bit of envy.

    Happy trails,
    Mark Yolton

There’s a lot to be said about traveling this country on a motorcycle. I’ve not done a trip quite as elaborate but I started to find what I didn’t know I was looking for after traveling the south-west.

    All the best Curtis,
